1911 Corset

Inspiration can sometimes come from period dress. My son Dillon is a fashion design student in Rome,Italy at Koefia Accademia Alta moda e Arte del Costume (a mouth full!) where they specialize in Haute Couture. Dillon is heavily inspired by the elegance and femininity of women that lived long ago and is especially taken by the use of undergarments which were amazing in themselves!! We did a little photo session with my daughter Tailer as the model wearing Dillon's hand made creation! It just so happens that the fabric he used matches my bedroom colors.............

                                                                 The Corset...

The corset at this point,1910-1914 had less
focus on the waist, more on smoothing
the body and hips, then encouraging a
slight forward lean in her posture

The boning comes to below the derriere
                                    smoothing the backside and compressing
                                                           the hips.

The corset was wonderful for the
                                                     lady's posture!

The corset was always worn over a chemise.
Dillon made this chemise to match and used
insertion lace with ribbon for that elegant detail,
                                           so common in antique garments.

                                                     Hand crafted stocking garters....

The back laces were used to tighten the
corset to the desired tension..usually quite
snug! It looks so pretty tied at the waist.

                                       Dillon hand embroidered the 'flossing'
on the bone casings to inhibit bone
from shifting, a Victorian practice that
adds pretty detailing as well as functionality

                                                       This corset shop is amazing!!!
